Frequently Asked Questions

Christian coaching is meeting with a coach for sessions in which you work through issues in your life from a Biblical point of view. Your coach helps you establish specific goals, identify obstacles to those goals, and then form personalized plans to overcome the obstacles and live the life you to which you feel called. Coaching is not considered part of the mental health field, but it does equip and empower people to have great marriages and happy lives.

In counseling, a healthcare professional can diagnose behavioral, mental, and emotional disorders. Counseling will often spend significant time looking into a person’s past in an attempt to resolve traumas, problematic beliefs, as well as resultant relational issues, feelings, and physical responses.

While counseling focuses on your past and on diagnoses, Christian coaching starts in the present and is oriented toward the future. This outlook is because Jesus has redeemed us from our past, and has freed us in the present to pursue those aspects of our redemption that we have not yet attained, but will certainly attain in the future.

Path of Life specializes in marriage coaching; however, we also offer individual Christian coaching as well as premarital coaching.
Sessions can occur virtually by Zoom or in person at our Christiansburg office for those located in the New River Valley. Sessions are 50 minutes long. The frequency of sessions depends on your specific situation and goals. Some clients find weekly or bi-weekly sessions to be most helpful, while others opt for once a month.
